Welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Infant School. I am delighted that you are considering our school for your child.

At St Mary’s, we believe that every child is a unique and precious gift from God. Rooted in the Word of God, our mission statement is 'Learning to Love, Loving to Learn'. We have high expectations for all and to provide a rich, inclusive, and purposeful curriculum that reflects the spirit of our school community. Alongside our Catholic mission, we are committed to preparing children for life in modern Britain. We actively promote British values,  democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs — and weave these into our daily school life. In doing so, we help children to grow as responsible citizens, ready to contribute positively to society with respect, compassion, and integrity.

We welcome children into our Nursery at the age of three, and invite applications for a Reception Class place in the academic year that children turn five. We also have close links with our Junior School, and the majority of parents choose to apply for a Junior place in Year 3, ensuring a smooth transition for our children as they continue their learning journey.

Our approach to teaching and learning is guided by a set of core beliefs. We believe in creativity, offering opportunities for children to think freely, take risks, and express themselves across the curriculum. We value hands-on experiences that bring learning to life, spark curiosity, and nurture a love of discovery. We adapt our teaching to meet the needs of every child, enabling all to flourish and fulfil their God-given potential.

We also encourage independence and reasoning, giving children the time and space to explore their ideas, ask questions, and develop confidence in their own abilities. We value expression and voice, ensuring every child feels heard and respected in our nurturing, faith-filled environment. As a Catholic community, we foster a strong sense of belonging, identity, and service, working closely with families, our parish, and the wider community.

Our children are also encouraged to find joy and wonder in the natural world. Through regular outdoor learning, they connect with God’s creation, develop responsibility for the environment, and grow in awe and gratitude.

At St Mary’s, our curriculum is not just about what we teach, but how we teach,  always with love, purpose, and the belief that every child is made in the image of God, with unique potential to grow, thrive, and shine.

I warmly invite you to contact us and arrange a tour of the school. It would be my pleasure to welcome you in person and share with you the vibrant, faith-filled community that makes St Mary’s such a special place.

With every blessing,

Miss V Mitchell
